Tammy Chang, M.D., M.P.H., M.S
Program Director, HBOM
What behaviors will
HBOM attempt to
incentivize?
By intervening during
teachable moments in
healthcare to support
healthy behavior
adoption among patients
through making the
healthy choice the easy
choice
How can HBOM support CQIs like ASPIRE?
Thoughts from the coordinating center...
1. Can work with HBOM to understand how anesthesiologists and CRNAs can
play a role to promote smoking cessation during our “teachable moment”
2. HBOM can act as partners, reviewing data in the MPOG registry to understand
the opportunities across the state of MI
3. Based on this knowledge and approval from MI ASPIRE Quality Champions,
we can create QI initiatives and tools to help anesthesia providers incorporate
smoking cessation efforts with their patients
Next Steps
Obtain feedback and approval to
move forward with MPOG data
analysis
Create a dataset for HBOM
colleagues to access within MPOG
firewalls
Develop a proposal for ASPIRE MI
Quality Champions to respond to

Preoperative Testing Optimization
The Michigan Value Collaborative
has identified preoperative testing
as an opportunity for optimization
Reached out to us to gauge interest
in partnering with them on a QI
initiative to reduce unnecessary
testing
Variability across procedures and tests
Discussion
Is this an area of interest for ASPIRE Quality Champions? Why or why not?
What is the role of anesthesia providers in determining testing at your facility?
What is the best way to work with MVC? Obtain testing metrics and benchmarking
from MVC or generate using MPOG data?
QI Reporting Tool
Have noticed slowness when
navigating through screens
Still working through issues before
adding opioid equivalency dashboards
Have not been able to officially “retire”
old dashboard
We understand this is causing some
challenges and are trying to resolve as
soon as possible
Thank You
